The following are sub genres and genres of horror:
- Slasher horror
Every slasher horror film has a victim, a killer and a bunch of weapons.
Although this is a successful genre, it only really makes money within the period of Halloween. And audiences don't really watch this genre for a second time. As there is always resolution and a sequel is out of the question.
- Thriller/Action-Adventure horror- The thriller/ action genre normally entails a complex narrative, with the combination of misleading clues and pieces of evidence. This is a prime example of how suspense is built up for the audience. It will normally use a sudden twist within the plot and along side there will be a lot of action. Here is an example of a Action horror.
- Psychological horror/Suspense
This is the genre in which I want to use for my film/ film trailer. The convention of this film are normally a slow suspense entailed narrative. They normally use a fragmented narrative, with a backstory that is untold. They normally have a paranormal sense to them, and the mise en scene is normally creepy and old. This genre also entails a lot of twists towards the narrative, with a complexity of jumpy and quick shots of a unknown subject/ character.
above are some examples of this sub-genre.
- Paranormal horror
This particular sub genre of horror is a very popular theme within cinemas. People love to get scared, and especially from an unknown third person, with an unknown background. This sub genre typically has a dark atmospheric surrounding in both the setting and portrayed around the characters within the film.
